Kart Duel Guide, Rules, and Tips
Kart Duel is a head-to-head kart race for two: five laps of a tight track with a hairpin, a chicane, and blue boost pads on the straights. Play it with a friend on one keyboard, or race the CPU on your own. The first kart across the line after five laps wins.
How to Play
- After the 3-2-1 countdown, both karts race five laps. The first to finish wins immediately.
- Blue arrow pads give a 1.2-second speed boost above your normal top speed.
- Driving on the grass slows you sharply, and karts bounce off each other on contact.
- In one-player mode your winning time is saved as your best.
Strategy and Tips
- Line up for every boost pad. Missing one hands your opponent a few kart lengths.
- Brake before the hairpin and turn in late; you'll exit faster onto the straight with a pad on it.
- Stay on the inside through the chicane so your opponent has to go around you.
- Use contact carefully: a bump costs both karts speed, so it only helps when you're behind.
Controls

Player 1 drives with W and S and steers with A and D. Player 2 uses the arrow keys. Alone, you can use either set, or hold the mouse or a finger on the screen to drive toward it. With two players on a touch screen, each player owns one half: hold the outer side to turn left and the inner side to turn right.
Background
Split-screen and same-screen kart racing became a living-room staple in the 1990s, when two controllers and one TV made every race personal. Kart Duel keeps the same idea but shares a single keyboard, so a friend next to you is all you need.
