Maze Guide, Rules, and Tips
Maze drops you at the green entrance of a freshly generated labyrinth and asks you to find the red exit. Every maze is unique, and sizes range from a 15×15 warm-up to a 41×41 expert challenge, with best times recorded for each difficulty.
How to Play
- Start at the green entrance and reach the red exit.
- You can only move through open corridors, not through walls.
- Each maze is generated fresh, so memorizing routes will not help.
- Finish faster to set a new best time for that difficulty.
Strategy and Tips
- Follow one wall: keep your hand on the left or right wall and you will eventually reach the exit of a simply connected maze.
- Look ahead toward the exit and avoid long dead-end branches that lead away from it.
- On large mazes, scan from the exit backward to find the corridor that connects to it.
- Use hints sparingly while learning, then switch them off to improve your times.
Controls
Move with the arrow keys or WASD on a keyboard, or with the on-screen buttons on touch devices. If hints are enabled, press the spacebar to show or hide a suggested path.
Background
Mazes have fascinated people since antiquity, from the legendary Labyrinth of Crete to the hedge mazes of European gardens. Computer-generated mazes like these are built with algorithms that guarantee a path from entrance to exit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is every maze solvable?
Yes. Each maze is generated with a guaranteed path from the entrance to the exit.
How do the hints work?
Hints use the A* pathfinding algorithm to show the best route from your current position. Toggle them with the spacebar when enabled.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. Use the on-screen direction buttons to move.
